Garmin GPSMAP 953XSV Upgrade on Smuggler – Clean Dash & Modern Setup

A Solid Electronics Upgrade on This Smuggler

The boat originally had a Simrad GO7, which had done its job over the years. The owner wanted a larger, faster, and more modern setup with a cleaner look at the helm.

Removing the GO7 & Opening Up the Dash

We removed the GO7 and carefully opened up the dash to accommodate a larger screen. Rather than simply surface mounting over the existing cutout, we reshaped the dash properly so the new unit integrates cleanly and looks factory-finished.

A clean dash layout makes a huge difference — especially when you're running offshore and want everything easy to see and operate.

Dash upgrade from Simrad Go7 to new Garmin 953XSV

New Garmin System Installed

We installed a GPSMAP 953XSV, paired with a GT15-TM 600W transducer.

This combination delivers:

  • Clear CHIRP sonar performance

  • Modern touchscreen interface

It’s a noticeable performance upgrade from the previous unit and gives the owner far more confidence when sounding and navigating.

Waypoint Transfer – Protecting Valuable Marks

A key part of any electronics upgrade is protecting the customer’s hard-earned fishing spots.

We transferred all existing waypoints from the old Simrad unit across to the new Garmin system so nothing was lost in the changeover.

The Finished Result

✔️ Enlarged and tidy dash layout
✔️ Modern Garmin electronics
✔️ Improved sonar clarity
✔️ All waypoints transferred

A clean, modern setup and a big improvement all round.

This Smuggler is now ready to get back out on the water 🎣⚓
