Garmin GPSMAP 8410XSV Upgrade on a McLay

We recently completed a great electronics upgrade on this McLay, giving the owner a major boost in navigation and sonar performance.

The existing setup was due for a refresh, so we installed a Garmin GPSMAP 8410XSV — a fast, powerful 10” touchscreen chartplotter/fishfinder that delivers crisp detail and smooth operation. It’s a big leap forward in both usability and visibility.

To ensure strong sonar performance to match, we paired the display with a GT15TM CHIRP transducer. This mid-band CHIRP unit provides excellent target separation, sharper fish arches, and dependable depth readings while underway — ideal for the wide range of fishing our coast offers.

We also loaded Navionics Vision+ charts with Relief Shading. This adds high-definition bottom detail, helping highlight drop-offs, reef edges, and structure that hold fish — making it easier to find productive ground faster.
