Garmin Electronics Installation Tauranga | GPSMAP 8412XSV on Stabicraft 1850 Supercab
We recently completed a Garmin marine electronics installation on a Stabicraft 1850 Supercab in Tauranga, featuring a GPSMAP 8412XSV chartplotter, GT51 transducer, and full NMEA 2000 network setup for reliable offshore fishing performance.
This install focused on creating a clean, modern helm layout, accurate heading data, and a sonar system capable of delivering clear fishfinding performance in New Zealand coastal conditions.
This project is part of our wider marine electronics installation services in Tauranga and across New Zealand, where we design and install complete systems tailored to each boat.

Garmin GPSMAP 8412XSV Flush-Mounted Installation
At the centre of the system is a Garmin GPSMAP 8412XSV, flush-mounted into the dash for a clean, factory-style finish.
The 12-inch touchscreen provides powerful chartplotting and sonar capability, making it an excellent choice for trailer boats like the Stabicraft 1850 Supercab.
- Clean and modern helm layout
- Improved visibility when running offshore
- Secure mounting with protection from movement and knocks
NMEA 2000 Network Setup
Behind the dash, we installed a NMEA 2000 backbone network to allow seamless communication between all electronics onboard.
This system connects to a Garmin 24XD GPS and heading sensor, providing highly accurate heading data for improved chart orientation, waypoint navigation, and overall usability.
The 24XD sensor was mounted on the hardtop to ensure the best possible signal and performance.
GT51-TM Transducer Installation
For sonar performance, we installed a Garmin GT51-TM 600W transducer on the transom.
This setup delivers:
- CHIRP traditional sonar
- ClearVü scanning sonar
- Strong performance in New Zealand coastal fishing conditions
The GT51-TM is a popular option for trailer boats, offering a great balance of performance and value for anglers targeting snapper, kingfish, and other inshore species.
Future-Proofing the Setup
Additional cabling was installed for electric teaser reels, allowing for easy upgrades in the future without the need to re-run wiring.
Planning ahead like this keeps installs clean, efficient, and ready for expansion.

Completed Stabicraft 1850 Electronics Fitout
With the Garmin GPSMAP 8412XSV, GT51 transducer, NMEA 2000 network, and 24XD heading sensor fully installed and configured, this Stabicraft 1850 Supercab now has a modern electronics system ready for serious fishing.
Another clean and professional install completed, and another Stabi ready to hit the water.
