Full Offshore Electronics Upgrade – Built to Fish Hard

Another electronics upgrade completed on this Tristram 881 Offshore

We removed the older Lowrance HDS and P79 setup and replaced it with a full Garmin offshore package designed for serious performance.

At the heart of the system is the GPSMAP 9013XSV — a 13” screen that fits perfectly flush into the dash and delivers exceptional clarity, speed and processing power.

Transducer Setup – Dual 1kW Through-Hull Performance

This boat now runs:

• B175HW (High Wide)

• B175L (Low Frequency)

Both are 1kW through-hull transducers, giving the skipper serious offshore capability.

We also fitted Quality Marine Electronics performance collars, ensuring clean water flow over the elements for optimal sonar returns — especially important at higher cruising speeds.

Why This Combination Works

• High Wide (HW) – Excellent for spotting top-water bait schools when game fishing

• Low Frequency (L) – Strong bottom definition and penetration for deep drops

Together, this setup provides exceptional target separation and deep-water performance.

Offshore Radar & Positioning

To complete the package, we installed:

• Garmin Fantom 18x (Black)

• Garmin GPS 24XD antenna

The Fantom 18x provides reliable offshore radar coverage with MotionScope technology, while the 24XD antenna improves heading accuracy — critical for radar overlay and precise navigation.

A Seaview cable gland was used on the hardtop to ensure a clean and fully waterproof radar cable entry.

Custom Setup & Chart Configuration

We loaded Garmin charts with relief shading and configured custom screen layouts tailored to the owner’s style of fishing.

Each sonar frequency has its own dedicated icon for simple, intuitive switching — making it easy to move between High Wide and Low depending on the situation.
